Carbon disulfide emissions generated during viscose rayon manufacturing represent a major environmental and occupational health concern due to their toxicity, volatility, and contribution to atmospheric pollution. Effective control of carbon disulfide release is therefore essential for improving industrial environmental performance and ensuring regulatory compliance. The present study investigates the chemical absorption of carbon disulfide emissions from viscose rayon manufacturing processes using alkaline scrubbing systems under controlled operating conditions. The research focuses on evaluating absorption efficiency, reaction mechanisms, process optimization, and operational stability associated with alkaline scrubbing technology. Experimental analysis was conducted to examine the influence of scrubbing solution concentration, gas flow rate, liquid-to-gas ratio, pH, contact time, and operating temperature on carbon disulfide removal performance. Results demonstrate that alkaline scrubbing effectively enhances carbon disulfide absorption through chemical reaction and mass transfer mechanisms, resulting in substantial reductions in gaseous pollutant concentration. The study further reveals that optimized alkaline concentration and gas–liquid contact conditions significantly improve absorption efficiency while minimizing chemical consumption and operational costs. Increased residence time and controlled pH conditions were found to promote stable pollutant removal and improved process reliability.
